When a new year approaches, it is another time to start fresh, try something new or better ourself in some way. For 2016, we thought it would be fun to ask some professional dance artists and Capezio Athletes about their New Year’s resolutions, and how they’re planning to refresh and reset for the year to come. (P.S. It’s a leap year, so you’ve got an extra day to work toward your goals!)
What’s your New Year’s resolution?
Michele Wiles, artistic director, BalletNext
“My New Year’s resolution is to be open to all of the opportunities available. Life is too short not to explore absolutely everything!”
Adrienne Canterna, dancer/choreographer
“My motto 2016 is to ‘be bold’ – in my dancing, my direction, my choreography, my life. I will be a true #girlBOSS and create my own happiness.”
Daphne Lee, dancer, Collage Dance Collective
“My New Year’s resolution is to work more on what goes into my body. I want to cut my intake of sugar. I love sweets, but I don’t like how they affect my joints. I also want to work on eating less grains just to give my body a new way of managing foods. This past year, I worked on less red meat, and it’s been wonderful thus far. Another resolution is to focus on how I work in the studio – learning to be more patient with choreography and keeping my mood positive as the day goes on. I’m looking forward to what 2016 has in store, including learning ‘Pas De Dix’ from Swan Lake and working with new choreographers.”
Sophia Lucia, dancer
“My New Year’s resolution is to continue to focus on my ballet training.”
Kayla Mak, student at Westchester Dance Academy
“My New Year’s resolution is to improve on my technique and continue to study hard and get straight A’s.”
Devin Ruth, dancer in Tappin’ Through Life (Off-Broadway)
“Every year, I make my New Year’s resolution the same thing: to be a better dancer than I was last year. If I can accomplish one more thing than I did the year before, then every year I will improve and grow as a dancer. My other resolution is to never let an opportunity pass me by. I don’t want to look back and regret auditions I didn’t go to or an opportunity I didn’t seize. As a dancer, I think that it is important to take risks and not be afraid to go after your dreams.”
How would you like to freshen up your look this coming year?
Daphne Lee
“You have to start the year off in swag and style. January is cold, even here in Memphis, and warm-ups are important, like the Shrug and the V-Neck Sweater. The Capezio Union Square Leggings have been a favorite among my co-workers because they make your legs look long and sleek, while adding a pop of color. Lastly, since my rep involves classic and contemporary works, the Windswept Love Skirt resembles the costumes I wear and is great for rehearsals with my partners.”
Michele Wiles
“I would update my wardrobe this winter with the Capezio Convertible Panel Jacket. This jacket rocks!”
Sophia Lucia
“To freshen up my look for the new year, you can find me wearing my Turning Pointe 55 shoes. As well as the Capezio Convertible Panel Jacket and Studio Crop Pants.”
Kayla Mak
“I think I can freshen up my look by wearing the Capezio Active Halter Leotard, a Jumpsuit and the Bra Top with BraTek®.
Devin Ruth
“Capezio’s Hudson Jacket, Union Square Leggings, Brooklyn Biketard and Empire Crop are definitely on my wish list! They are so cute and perfect to dance in!”
Adrienne Canterna
“The Windswept Love Skirt is simply divine and actually inspired me to create new movement. It’s a must in 2016. So romantic!”
