Studies have proven that certain colors influence the way others feel about you. Are you sending the right color message? When you wear color, choose a shade that will assist you through the journey of your day, giving you what you need to be your very best, whether it’s increased confidence, a calming effect, increasing respect, inspiration or lifting of spirits. Here, learn about colors and the affects they have on us.

PURPLE generates feelings of self-respect, dignity and self-worth. It is a royal color and is associated with kings and queens, extravagance and wealth. People who choose to wear this color or to put it in their environment are drawn to its creative and spiritual qualities. It’s a good color to send a message out into the world that you’re one-of-a-kind, special and unique. Wearing purple shows others that you want to be noticed. This is the wrong color choice if you want to blend in among others as you go about your business.

BURGUNDY, like the color purple, is aligned with royalty, so if you’ve been feeling beaten down or lost in the masses, wearing burgundy can help you rise to the occasion with finesse and set you apart from others.

RED is powerful, confident, stands out and gets noticed. Red can really pack a punch when needed. Wear red whenever you feel a need to show confidence or would like to boost your self-esteem. Red gives us energy, is outgoing and ready to move forward with action, strength, passion and drama. Be aware, however, that wearing too much red can make a person come off a little too intimidating to others who may lack self-confidence in themselves. Red will increase heart rates and excite those who see you.

PINK is the color of compassion and an open heart. It generates feelings of softness, gentleness, kindness, affection and love. Taking responsibility for your life and manifesting your dreams resonate with this color’s energy. Most people associate pink with babies, little girls and feminine energies. When people are wearing pink, whether they are male or female, they appear approachable and capable of loving others. If you wish to feel more heart-connected for yourself or others, reach for pink!

YELLOW encourages open-mindedness and attention to detail. This is a color often worn by intellectuals, the studious and those who like to be in positions of authority and control. Yellow is uplifting and will help you feel cheerful, optimistic, warm and sunny. Yellow is said to carry the same healing qualities associated with the sun. All shades of yellows and golds will cheer you up and help make you feel happier. Beware if you are confronting someone in yellow, as it can increase tempers.

BLUE is kind, peaceful and calm. It’s a non-threatening color that promotes values such as loyalty and honesty. Those who wear this color reflect a wish for peace and quiet, and tranquility. Blue promotes trust and is a good color to wear if this is the quality you wish to inspire in your interactions. Pale or lighter colored blues can be wonderfully uplifting, a nice shade of blue to choose if you are feeling a bit nervous or edgy. TURQUOISE encourages clarity in thoughts, feelings, communication and has a refreshing, youthful, approachable personality.

GREEN is an easy color to look at. It’s nurturing, earthy, rich, sophisticated and can bring money to mind, so a good color to wear if asking for money. Green generates an atmosphere that is calm, secure, soothing, balanced and in harmony with an appreciation for nature. Choose bright and lighter greens to wear whenever you are embarking on something new or wish to turn over a new leaf. Wearing deeper hues of green such as emerald or forest is a great resource to rejuvenate your life energies.

BROWN is dependable and down-to-earth. Brown shades help make relationships solid, increase decisiveness and concentration, and attracts help in a financial crisis.

BLACK/GREY are power colors, are serious and show you mean business. These colors are good for protection when dealing with crowds, as these colors are a little undercover. Black and gray are fashion basics. We all have the basic black suit, black dress or slacks that are a must wear for a number of different social settings. Choose to wear black because you prefer to blend in and keep a low profile in social settings. Don’t wear black if you want to stand out amidst a crowd. If you wear black too much, though, you can appear to be in a dark mood.

WHITE is a fresh, bright outlook, and represents cleansing and new beginnings. Putting on white feels like being given an opportunity to start the day with a clean slate, as long as it hasn’t taken on any discoloration from too much laundering. Note: Bright whites only! Be sure to treat or get rid of any dingy or yellow whites.
